Sennheiser has taken a good grasp of the consumer headphones market in recent years, with a number of successful and popular models being worn by huge swathes of the general public.

More exclusive, however, is its stunning Orpheus headphones rig, a luxury unit that strives for perfection and costs – wait for it – €50,000 (US $54,700).

The Sennheiser Orpheus headphones and amp combo first appeared in 1991 and has been evolving ever since, culminating in the super-spec HE 1060/HEV 1060 electrostatic headphone system.

The new unit features self-hiding knobs that reveal themselves when necessary, concealed in the solid stone body.

The headphones feature transistor power amps built into the ear-cups, and the frequency range is a massive 8Hz – 100kHz.

The amp runs on a ESS SABRE ES9018 chip for the eight internal DACs that process high-resolution audio up to 32bit/384kHz.

Released mid-2016, this will be both a sexy conversation starter and will be a brilliant sounding system. So rush out and pick one up today! Maybe splash out for a spare, too.
